STEELBALL is a retro futuresport in the classic 16-bit mould: two teams of nine armoured athletes, one steel ball, and a crowd that cheers louder when the stretchers come out. Pass, shoot, and slide-tackle across a vertically scrolling arena rigged with bounce domes, launch ramps, warp gates, electrified bumpers, and claimable multiplier stars that fatten every goal you score.
Armour breaks. Men go down. There are no substitutes — every crunching tackle is an investment, and every stretcher is a hole in someone's formation. Speed is armour. Armour is life.
Three ways to play:
- ARCADE — straight to the arena for a one-off brawl at three difficulty levels.
- STEEL CUP — a three-round knockout against escalating opposition, sudden death if you're level, and the Apex Titans waiting in the final.
- CAREER — take the Steel Serpents from Division 2 journeymen to champions. Seven-week seasons, promotion and relegation, a transfer market, gym training across six stats, injuries that cost you next week's fixture, and a session-code save system straight out of 1991.
Keyboard and gamepad supported. SID-flavoured audio, CRT scanlines, and hand-drawn pixel athletes with palette-swapped kits for all fifteen teams. Press F9 for a screenshot. There may be cheat codes. We're not telling you what they are.
