Emperormarkus is an independent designer of historical strategy games, browser wargames, and Commodore 64-inspired experiments. My projects explore command under pressure — from the Falklands and the Cold War to the Roman world — using compact systems, retro presentation, and a strong interest in military history, atmosphere, and replayable decision-making.
Most of the games here are self-contained builds designed to be easy to open, play, and return to. Alongside the strategy titles, I also experiment with C64-flavoured action games, retro presentation, and design workflows shaped by Python, AI tools, and a wider creative practice that continues at emperormarkus.com.
Historical strategy and retro experiments from the South Atlantic to Rome.
These games are home brew games. We generally plan these games and build on a theme. We make games that we enjoy and don't pretend to be more than we are.
Collections
Falklands Collection Games centred on the 1982 South Atlantic campaign, from high-level operational command to smaller, sharper battle-focused designs. This is the heart of the current catalogue, led by South Atlantic: 1982 and 1982: South Atlantic Showdown.
Roman Collection Strategy games inspired by the ancient world, with a focus on Roman ambition, politics, war, and long-form decision-making. This line is best represented by Aquila II: Republic’s Reckoning and the broader Roman-themed work on Emperormarkus.
C64 / Retro Lab Projects shaped by the feel of the Commodore 64: direct play, strong atmosphere, compact mechanics, and old-school visual character. Some are tributes to 8-bit action design, while others borrow the machine’s spirit for modern browser games.
Cold War Command Games about strategic tension, escalation, and military pressure in the late twentieth century. These titles broaden the historical range of the catalogue while staying rooted in command decisions and replayable systems.
Browser Wargames Self-contained strategy games built to run quickly and cleanly in the browser, with minimal friction between discovery and play. This is the best place to start if you want immediate-access historical gaming.
